sql server 2012 AG group not fail over automatically when SQL server service stopped

  • I forcefully stopped SQL service in our sql server 2012 test environment the availability group not failed over to secondary, AG group settings are set to synchronous commit and automatic fail over for both the nodes,it is three node cluster with node majority,

Why the AG group not failed over to secondary when SQL service stopped? will it fail over only when the cluster service stop or server down?

It could be the failover settings for retry failures. The cluster log should have additional  as well as the cluster log. This blog explains the issues with the failover settings:
INF: AlwaysOn – The secondary database doesn’t come automatically when the primary instance of SQL Server goes down
