MDS Master Data Services impossible to connect to web UI

  • I hope someone can help me out. I am finding it impossible to get the WEB UI for MDS to work. I have followed multiple videos and MS docs and its the same, I just get This page can't be displayed, it ridiculous.

I have tried all of the following...

MDSTempDir folder does not exist in the Master Data Services folder: created it and gave full control to the MDS Service account.
The MDS service account has Read/Write/Full/Control permissions to MDSTempDir
The MDS service account has full permissions to web.config file

There are no errors in Event Viewer.

Anonymous Authentication and Windows Authentication is enabled in IIS for the Default Web Site, and also for the MDS directory, and also for the MDSTempDir seen in IIS.

Just don't know what else to try, I have so tried recycling the pools, and restarting IIS after every change.

Even the MS guy here at work said is was as pain in the backside to get working, he had no ideas. Any help would be appreciated. I'm on a Windows 2016 machine running SQL Server 2017 on an Azure Windows VM.

    Thanks in advance.

    D.

  • From my own experience it is not only creating the mds database but also enabling the IIS.
Here is the guide I followed - includes the explanation of what to do with the IIS.
Also use internet explorer and silver..(something ) is asked to be installed. Master Data Services Installation and Configuration
    Hope it helps.

  • Hey,

Thank you for the reply, this was the document that I used originally, but this morning I did one thing diffferent which was to use the local windows admin account for everything, and it worked. The doc clearly says you do not need to use the same account for the application pool as I did to create the database, but I tried that previously and it did not work. This is in DEV, so not a big deal, but I will not want to use the local admin account for anything if I can help it. BTW, I already had Silverlight and all the IIS components installed.

But thanks for sending the link anyway, it encouraged me to just try something different to see what the result was, and I got somewhere.

    Thank you.

    Regards,
    D.
