Migrating APP+DB from one vendor to another - advice wanted

    I'm currently creating reports for a martial arts group who are hoping to move their front end from an Access back end, to front end vendor that apparently "makes everything a lot easier", including website integration and Facebook SEO.  However, the new vendor has no wizard that scans the existing schema/data and makes mapping recommendations - I've never performed a cross-vendor migration, but that lack of wizard seems like a serious red flag.  The client is supposed to do the mapping, and when you bear in mind this software is sometimes purchased by non-technical owner-operators, that is the 2nd red flag.

    So, I've been asked to analyse the current schema, and make recommendations as to what student data should be mapped over (for reporting).  Looks like we might be able to archive the data of previous students, and just keep the existing ones, though I don't think that makes the job simpler.  

    I'm already getting the feeling we need to take a step back, and get a better grip on this entire thing.  For a start, I want to see the new schema, or at least some templates as to what data the new vendor need.
