Perfmon Counter Total vs Target Server Memory

  • Hi Experts,

We have a server running 3 instance of SQL Server and one of them is assigned with 6GB as minimum and 8GB as maximum memory ,when run the perfmon counter the Target Server memory is very high at 8 GB and Total Server memory at 4GB. Why this difference ?

  • Nice explanation with examples, in short Target = max memory setting in MSSQL I'm curious what this counter show when the max memory is left to default... must check on labo.
