log shipping PID

  • We are running SQL2008R2 enterprise and have log shipping enabled. The logs are shipped from west to east coast.

Is there a way to determine how much bandwidth the log shipping process is taking up during the transfer of the log?

My thoughts were to determine the PID for log shipping process using the Process Explorer tool then using  Perfmon tools to look at the network port.
Am I going about this the correct way or is the a better way to get the info I am after?

    thanks.

  • It's a guesstimate in any sense. Look at log size, and then the time to xfer. Should be able to get an idea of bandwidth usage from there.

If you get those numbers to the network people, they'll have an idea then of the transfer rate. Your bandwidth is the pipe. If you have a 1Gpbs up pipe, then you're using some percentage of that. If you show the size v time, you'll know roughly what percentage of that you're using.

  • Steve - thank you for your feedback, we'll look to calculate based on your recommendations. - Cheers !
