Hi
We have installed SSRS 2012 and upgraded to 2016. The SQL Server Browser is not installed on the machine.
The setup lists that with redistributable features as text, nothing to select. So it should habe been installed automatically?

It won't be installed with SSRS as it is a program which "sniffs" the presence of other SQL instances.
Why are you needing browser?

Not for an SSRS only installation. It's used by the database engine or analysis services.
If the catalog databases are on a named instance, then you would need it on that instance for the database engine but not on the server with just SSRS.

Browser plays no role in your ability to connect. Ensure you are an Admin on the Site Settings and have the fully qualified path to the Web Service URL (found in your Reporting Services Configuration Manager):

I am admin and the service URL can be reached. SSMS: The report server instance could not be found.

Interesting.
I was able to connect to mine as mentioned above.
Check the SSRS log for clues.
