Anyone do Peer to Peer or Merge Replication bi-coastal with 4 tb database?

  • Scenario:
Based in the west, management built a datacenter on East Coast.  They want an Active-Active write and it would appear that only Peer to Peer or Merge Replication will do the trick?

East and West coast goes to own datacenter, then eventual consistency.  Azure not a popular option, on premises Azure is feature limited, or at least the last time we talked to a rep.

    Thanks for any info!

  • 1) I have had clients REMOVE replication (both forms) because of it, well, being problematic (or worse). Bi-directional data modification/synchronization is just about the hardest nut to crack in all of data processing land (on any platform). It is simply fraught with potential issues.

    2) I have often found that when reality is explained to clients about #1 above (or they go through the pain of either/both options) they magically find that they don't REALLY need bi-directional DML. That opens up numerous other options for achieving whatever their TRUE requirements actually are.

    3) Can you please tell me what feature(s) of Azure could provide what you are wanting to do?
