sql server cluster patching question

  • Hi,
I am new to SQL server.Just trying to do a patching in a cluster.
I am doing a patching at passive node now.I understand the process and , as per process, we should remove the passive node from possible owner list.My question is about this part

1)just remove possible owner for windows cluster?
    or
2)just remove possible owner for sql server cluster?
    or
    3) do  1) + 2) + remove possible owner for all reources + storage?

appreciate any help to clear my doubt.

The failover decision process is controlled by the list of possible owners on the network name resource.
When patching, remove the node(s) you are working on from the list of possible owners on the network name resource.
When patched and rebooted add them back. During your failover window move the cluster role to a patched node, then repeat the above process for the unpatched node
