migrating SQL Enterprise 2008 SP 2 to SQL 2014 Developer

  • Good day,
I was checking the possible upgrade path from microsoft and it seems i cannot upgrade enterprise to developer edition.I want to go for developer because of license costs. Its not a production server.
    Anyone who did it before?

  • For that you'll need to uninstall 2008 and then install 2014.

I did that many times. I used side by side migration for this purpose. In the nutshell steps are:
    1. Install the new server
    2. Set up database log shipping between old and new server
    3. Switch the application to the new server
    4. Decommission the old server

  • Thank you i will try it
