Resource DB backup

  • Dear Experts,
Please advise on what basis to schedule a backup of resource database . I mean how often does it get updated (apart from when upgrades occur ) to be backed up ? Thank u in advance.

  • Resource DB is a little different. Here's an article on it.

It doesn't get updated more than upgrades, patches but ideally you would backup the files more often than just after upgrades, patches. It's just a flat file backup that is small so backing up regularly shouldn't be a problem.
So if there is something like a folder of database backups that is backed up by system backups, you could just copy the files to that folder daily. You want it to be able to quickly find the backup of those files in case of something like losing your storage. You don't want to be in a disaster situation where you are trying to find the last backups of the files. You'd also want to consider how you do online storage, offline storage of your backups. You likely wouldn't want a situation where backups of all other databases are available in near storage but not the resource database files. RTO would need to be considered.
