Upgrading from SQL 2008 R2 Express RTM to SQL Server 2016 Standard SP1

  • I want to upgrade from  SQL 2008 R2 Express Edition with Advanced Services (64-bit)  RTM to SQL Server 2016 Standard SP1. Is it possible to do so? What should I do to achieve this? I checked some of the documents from Microsoft and some of them mentioned upgrade from SQL 2008 R2 Express SP3. What should I do in my case? Any suggestion is appreciated.
    Thanks

Apply SP3 and then try the upgrade. As you found in the documentation, you need to be on at least 2008R2 SP3 to upgrade.
