.bak / .diff locations

  • Hello All,

Quick question (hopefully): When implementing a maintenance plan for SQL Server 2012/2014, does the .diff backup type need to reside in the same folder as the .bak folder to a make the backup files valid?

The maintenance plan im looking at puts all the backup types, .trn, .diff, .bak in separate folders. I wanted to ensure that this method is correct for DR purposes.

    Kind Regards,

    Tom.

It's fine to have the types separated out with the different folders. What folder the backup goes to doesn't affect the validity of the backup.
Testing by restoring the backups is how you would ensure the validity of the backups.
