Biztalk DBs in compatibility mode

  • Hi,

Has anyone ever tried running BizTalk with the DBs in a lower compatibility mode?

We are currently on Biztalk 2010 with no plans to upgrade (we're trying to get rid of it) , but the latest version of SQL it runs on is SQL 2008 R2, which will be out of support before we can be completely non-reliant on it.

Has anyone ever tried moving the BizTalk databases to a newer version of SQL and running them in compatibility mode for 2008 R2?  I know how fussy BizTalk can be (I cannot wait until it's gone) so don't know if this would cause any issues?

Not on these versions but we had tried it years ago - similar situation as yours. It blew up on us in Dev and that's as far as we got. So we just had to live with it.
And we all felt the same about it as you......🙂

each version of biztalk has a supported sql server version. If you deviate from this then issues can arise

  • I see no reason you would have an issue in a newer SQL instance running in a Compatibility mode equal to your current version.

The only issue is configuring it to have been restore properly and SQL Instance name properly done.

However, the issue I have is WHY, a newly installed BizTalk set of databases on a known SQL version has the SSODB in an older compatibility mode by default????? that's a puzzler to me.... One would think, like all the other BizTalk dbs, that they would be the same and that MODEL DB would set the versioning but that doesn't seem to be the case in SSODB
