Good Referrence For Evaluate SQL Server vs Oracle

  • Hello
I'm searching for reliable content about compare SQL Server And Oracle and also with other DBMS.
    Please introduce suitable links.

  • IMHO, there is no totally reliable, unbiased, completely accurate comparison except possibly for the cost of ownership.
There are a lot of folks that will say that MS has created a greater user community that Oracle or MySQL but, again, that seems to be a personal opinion.
As for the technical side, a lot can be found at the following...

Personally, I find the use of := rather than just = quite annoying. 😉

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • Hi,

Agree with Jeff, that a totally unbiased document will be hard to come by.
Apart from technical considerations and cost of ownership, I think one important aspect is the quality of customer support service. I have been responsible for databases in various financial institutions in Tokyo for about 20 years now. And have been supporting instances of Sybase, Oracle, SQL Server. By far the worst customer support is from the Oracle guys. You can spend months with them related to some bug in their product and they will mostly be trying to put the blame on the OS or Hardware. Sybase support used to be the best. And SQL Server support too is good.
