MCSA 2016 BI Developer

  • Hi I am new here.
I don't have any prior MCSA certifications.
I am planning to change my career from marketing to a BI professional.
As you know, Microsoft has created a new certification named 'MCSA 2016 BI Development'- which I plan to take by June next.
My question is, since I am planning a career in BI, do I also need to take the MCSA 2016 Database Administration/Development certs?
I have working knowledge of administration, development etc but just want to focus on a BI path.
It will be very helpful if you provide your insights and suggestions.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Your background sounds typical of most BI professionals. Don't forget to read Kimball's data warehouse toolkit book, and also try to focus less on database administration and more on ETL and data modeling (3NF, star schema, tabular olap, etc.)

Get experience somewhere if you can, even if it's unpaid.  A cert without experience is about as useful as a piece of half-used notebook paper
