The possible reason why Report Designer View is all blank

  • I was trying to open RDL using with my localhost database replacing the actual server database.

When in design view, it shows no warning or error at all. But all I can see is a blank Design View. How could that happen?

I believe if there is something wrong with my database, it will surely prompt right?

And at least I could see the layout.( I mean table borders etc.)

But what about the picture? As the image source is embedded with that RDL, why I couldn't see at all?

Please tell me something about that strange thing. I really do not have much experience with SSRS and I'm still at learning stage.

What do you mean the Design view is blank but you can see the table borders? If you can see table borders then your design view is not blank. Do you rather mean that when you preview the report is shows as blank?

The database connection would have no effect on the appearance of the report in design view. It will, of course, effect how it looks in preview, as if the data does not exist, you're no going to get a report.

Does any relevant data exist on your localhost database, or does the table exist, but no data. If the alter, then getting a dataset of nothing will likely cause your report to be blank.
