SSRS and Analysis Services -- report returns no data EXCEPT for SSAS administrator

  • The configuration is as follows

    SSRS 2014 native

    SSAS 2014

These instances are located on the same server.

Reports in SSRS are use a shared data source with windows integrated security.

Users are set up in an AD group that is assigned to a read-role in the desired cube.

( Please note: I *think* this is the configuration -- there may be critical details that I am missing or unaware of )

When users browse the reports they come back with no data available for charts, empty for non-charts.

When I browse the reports they come back fully populated.

I'm an admin on the SSAS instance. When I added the users as Admins on the instance, now they can see the reports fully populated.

Obviously having the users as Admins on the instance is a bad idea 🙂 But what is missing from the configuration?

All opinions and suggestions are my own, unless they're really good. Then I most likely read them here...

  • Can your report/end users query the data another way (i.e. connecting to the cube via MS Excel)?
What account is SSRS running under?  Does that account need to be added to the SSAS reader role?

I don't know for sure; I'm just asking questions hoping this may spark an idea for you.

     I hope this helps,
    Rob
