Am about to migrate my SQL Server from my own homegrown cloud to AWS and am trying to work my way through the licensing rat's nest.. For now, I'm looking to bring my own licensing. I got a quote for 25 CALS for $6,500 US, made up of:
Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Standard - OLP License w/SA
Microsoft SQL Server 2016 - User Client Access License
I am ready to pay this, but am wondering whether this is low as I can go, while still be compliant?
Also, I'm curious as to how the CALS are monitored in this type of environment.. Our use case is a multi-tenanted web app, with individual customers streaming their source data to us, or log shipping their data to us.
If you are someone who has experience at doing this, would appreciate an offline dialog..
