Hi There,I have worked on Peoplesoft as a developer for more than 10 years, now since peoplesoft is phasing out slowly, I am thinking about changing my career to become a data analyst. I like doing analysis. But it looks like that the employers want people with data analysis experience in a certain area (financial or healthcare). It is hard for me to get into that area, so could someone please give me a clue of how to become a data analyst?

This is a mighty broad topic and question. There isn't a formula for becoming a data analyst. There isn't even a consistent meaning of what that is. The best way to switch focus like this is to start doing it at your current position. Then keep expanding your knowledge and helping out those who are in the type of position that are interested in pursuing. Almost any kind of switch like this will come with salary drop too as you will not have the experience in that discipline that you have now.

I'm always confused about what a data analyst title really covers as well, i tend to think of it as using statistics to find both trends and outliers, maybe with a heavy presentation/chart component, but that's me.
There is a free site i spend a lot of time taking the free courses they offer to make myself better at those kinds of things.

they have a lot of courses related to analysis, and using the R language as part of that statistical analysis. At a minimum, just reviewing those courses, and comparing it to your known skillset, might help you determine if it's the a solid prospect for you to deepen your skillset.
