How to manage study/practice time for sql server exams.

  • Hi all,

For the past few months I have been planning to

prepare for the exam 70-462.(have done 70-461 earlier, that took for me ~5 months to complete). Tight schedule at work and family commitments makes me postpone/ drag the study time.

How do you guys motivate yourself and keep high energy and focus for the study /preparation after long hours at work?

    Thanks.

I know this is going to sound too simple and, therefore, impossible or unrealistic but... if it's something that you really want to do, then you have to set some boundaries with people that would task you to do other things. Don't get me wrong... if you make it a "job", it will be something that you end up loathing and will find excuses to not do it. But you do need to let the world know that there's something that you really want to do and need time to do it and then, come hell or high water, do it. And when people remind you "family first", remember that you're part of the family and that getting that cert and the knowledge that you get while attaining it will only help you help them better than you could without it.

Take time for YOU! It's not selfish. It's the only way that you'll be able to give them quality time when it's their turn. 🙂

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • I agree... it's called "professional development"... definitely worthwhile, whether you take the exams or not.

  • Yes, Will keep reminding myself that study/practice is also important (for exam or not) , and find ways to do it.

I just took one small step towards my preparation today. 😀

    Thanks a lot Jeff, Pietlinden.

  • If you really want to learn, I would find a (maybe) simple problem from work, and create your database to solve it. Then try to incorporate everything that you're learning into your database. Sure, you may not need partitioning in a small database, but it helps to know how it works and to have practiced with it... (for example).
