truncating the log file with a log shipped enabled database

  • When log shipping is set up, are the log shipping backups then same as a standard backup and log backups?

I.e. will the LDF files be emptied out every time the log shipping runs so my log file doesn't keep growing?

    Many thanks

Yes, a LogShipped database will have a transaction log backup job on the Primary server. This job takes a standard transaction log backup, full backups will still be managed by your instance backup regime.

Yes, a transaction log backup will truncate any committed transactions, note that in certain scenarios though the log can still grow.
