Accessing SQL 2014

  • While trying to access sql 2014 from 2008 , i was not even able to expand the databases .

Later , i migrated 2008 to 2008r2 and now at least i am able to expand the databases, jobs and others but not able to modify anything as it is a lower version of SSMS .

I have 2014 express setup as well but mine is an XP machine . How will i be able to help the user work on 2014 version totally. I am stuck . Pls suggest . Thanks

  • Generally you need to have the latest version of SSMS to access the latest version of SQL Server. You can access earlier versions from the latest one, but I've always run into problems connecting earlier versions to the latest.

  • You can download the SQL Server 2014 tools from this link http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/dn434042.aspx - you want the "SQL Server Management Studio Express (SQLManagementStudio)" option.
