Can i create a cube without using new cube wizard?

  • I am just confuse because many advance tutorials says build first the dimension before the cube.

    please help.

    many thanks.

  • You can build an empty cube and then add dimensions later, but usually, yes, you would create your cube from an existing Data Source View (DSV) and use existing dimensions tables for your cube dimensions. If all your dimensions are going to be linked dimensions, i.e. dimensions belonging to another cube, that is where building an empty cube would come into play.

  • If I'm not mistaken, you can also let the cube wizard build dimensions for you.

  • thanks for the idea, what i did was i created all dimensions first (3 to 4 dimensions) and right click on cubes go create wizard and select one fact table and add all dimensions that i created.

am i doing it right? well im thinking that the way is other than this one like not using the create cube wizard.

    thanks for the help.

You are not mistaken Koen, but you don't get that option if you choose 'Empty Cube' on the 'Select Creation Method' window.
