Powerpivot - Using SQL Server Synonyms

  • Hello,

I have about 50 user views that are consumed by customers via PowerPivot.

They want to completely change the naming convention of the views.

To accomplish that, and prevent the failure of previously created Excel PowerPivot extracts, I thought of using SQL Server Synonyms.

To my surprise, it appears that PowerPivot is unable to consume SQL Server Synonyms.

Upon selecting SQL Server Objects, it would just propose "Select Tables and Views", not showing my synonyms.

Can you tell me if it is possible for PowerPivot to consume Synonyms ?

If not, do you have any other suggestion to change a Naming Convention without breaking anything ?

    Thanks,

    Vincent

  • You could just define new views on top of the other ones.

(which is not ideal of course)
