We have a shared 32G RAM server running 2 instances and 2 reporting services. The instances are capped at 6G and 14G. The reporting services have no max memory specified and turn out to be true memory hogs resulting in the server running out of RAM. I know that memory in SSRS can be limited but I have encountered the general advice to up the memory when the maximum is hit frequently. How is the performance affected? Is there any measure to asses memory pressure? I know that for the engine there are entities like page life expectancy, certain wait types like resource semaphores, memory grants pending etc that can be monitored to get an idea of memory pressure. Is there anything for SSRS as well?
In the end I want to be able to give a sensible advice on either capping the SSRS memory or upscale the memory.
