    hi all,

i don't understand why file is not shrink after shrink file is made.

i used shrink with release space .( i dont wont to use with reorganize page option to avoid fragmentation)

there is no ghost record on this file, also file contain one table.

    any suggestion ?

(sql 2008 r2 sp 2 on win server)

    thanks sharon

  • If you're not reorganizing, it's because there is storage towards the end of the file preventing the shrink from occurring.

A single shrink with a reorganize because you've just had a major problem with data or just did a one time purge or something along these lines is not a big deal. It's regular and repeated shrinking of data files that is very problematic. If you're in the former situation, just do the most efficient shrink operation. If you're in the latter, figure out why you have to keep shrinking and fix that problem.
