Good Morning! I have been trying to get our SQL servers organized at work and one thing I am doing is setting up a Central Management Server. Although I am familiar with SQL I am just getting more in learning the DBA side.
So as I was registering all these servers and I see that many are using dynamic ports and browser services is not running. So I am not able register those services.
So what would be my best options in terms of security.
Enable browser services or set a static port.
I would imagine that since browser services isn't running and its a dynamic port that it shouldn't affect any applications running moving to a dynamic port.
I will have to test on some servers that are less critical first. But some of these run important applications that keep a hospital running. And security is top concern.
Its just that the management of all these servers has got out of control.
