installing Sql 2012 Evaluation version on Windows 7 Pro

  • I have spent the past 3 days trying to get a clean version of SQL 2012 installed on my laptop.

I installed the evaluation copy with defaults but Integrated services failed to install so I tried again. (failed). installed instance MSSQLSERVER

I removed sql 2012 using unistall and deleted out the folders from Program files and cleaned the registry

reinstalled instance as CHRISPC failed again

reinstalled once again and called instance MSCHRIS

SSMS, SAS and SSRS recognises PCNAME\MSCHRIS when I registered them

However Integrated Services still shows CHRISPC and not PCNAME\MSCHRIS when I go to register.

Whats more now if I try to do an uninstall from Control panel of SQL 2012 Windows and choose remove I get the following popup

"The operating system on this computer does not meet the minimum requirements for sql server 2012. For Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008R2 Service pack 1 is required. See http://go.microsoft.co,/fwlink/?LinkID=195092"

However I have gor SP1 on my PC and even did a reinstall of SP1.

What's more now the SQL Server Browser service fails to start.

How can I start again and remove everything cleanly from my system to do a completely fresh install. Or how can I remove CHRISPC as an instance for IS as this seems to be the key issue right now

    Help

  • Maybe you can try deleting from the command line. You can specify specific instances and specific features there.

  • No problems installing multiple versions on W7Prof+SP1. Thus have SS2005, SS2008, SS2008R2 and SS2012.

The only thing I watch for is that they are all named instances, in fact, I'm using the names you see above.

The other thing I do is set the TCP port using Configuration Tools/SQL Server Configuration Manager. Thus SS2000 (now de-installed) was set to 1433 (the default). I then went up one for each new SS version. Thus SS2012 is at 1437. And I'm about to put SS2014 at 1438.

He's using Evaluation Edition, which is supported on Win7 according to this:

  • ok, didnt spot that

  • I mixed up Express edition with Evaluation edition.

Nevertheless, has the OP ever gotten over this problem?
