Host address showing as loopback address (127.0.0.1) from another server

  • I have an odd situation and nothing myself not the network administrators have done appears to be having an effect.

If I run EXEC sp_who2 or use the monitoring software we have to production SQL Server, everything seems normal except for connections coming from one of the webservers. Instead of seeing the server name as the Host, I am seeing 127.0.0.1. I can trace it to a specific server because the username and databases being requested tie up with the function of that server (and if I kill the connections then the server moans for a short while and reconnects).

The requests are definitely coming in across TCP/IP, but again the network address for these SPIds is showing up as a string of zeros rather than the machine net address. The originating server is a different physical box on the same domain.

Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? At present we know it is just one server so we can pinpoint the connections, but if another server starts doing the same thing than identifying the server may become an issue

    Thanks in advance
