Unusual Database growth SQL Server 2000

  • How to find the reason for user database growth in last few days back.

I also need a query to find the SQL database table growth rate and statistics.

User database growth occupied 15gb of the drive space which never happened before. How to investigaet what caused the database growth.

  • To determine tables growth rates you need to keep a record of table sizes periodically. I store table sizes on a daily basis to draw growth reports.

  • You could try looking at your transaction log backups, and see what time of day they were very large. Then try to figure out what was running at that time.

I keep 30 days of server side trace files, so I can look there to see what was runnng at a particular time.
