SQL Server 2008 R2 on Server 2012

  • Hi

I've just learned that to install SQL Server 2008 R2 on Windows Server 2012 you have to run SQL Server 2008 R2 with at least SP1. One option is to do a slipstream install, but that is a bit of pain. One other option is to install the RTM and then immediately install SP1. Would that be OK, to do the RTM install and then the SP1 or do I have to do the Slipstream install?

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

  • You can install RTM first and then apply the SP.

Using SQL Server in Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 environments

Check under Minimum SQL Server version requirements for Windows Server 2012 or for Windows 8 > Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2.
