Hi all, wonder if you can help.
I really want to study SQL and eventually have a career in in it, I have looked online and cannot find anything solid on where to start studying properly, while i can buy books and read them its going to be so hard putting together all the materials and using them as best as i can, so I'd prefer to go down the online course route, where all the materials are put together for me, and they are all structured in the absolute best way.
Any recommendations on any companies, websites, courses where i can pay for the course and I get all the materials and tuition etc.?
thanks in advance, would really appreciate help on this.
**Edit......I really dont know where to start with all this, I worked for 5 years using transact SQL, so I do have some experience, basically all i used it for was for reporting purposes and to find problems with data.

I haven't used them personally, but I know the teachers of the courses are real professionals.

Ok thank you, I have had a look and although they do look very good, I am looking for a complete package type course, which would include all learning material, online help and also exams, so that when I finish them I have some qualifications under my belt?

or is there no such thing for SQL?

There are classroom trainings with that kind of offering, but not sure about online trainings.

Thanks, decided im going to go with the pluralsight training, then when I feel confident I'll look to take some exams on my own accord.

Think that's going to be the best approach, as I cant really just say to potential employers that I have studied online, surely they will want to see certificates/qualifications, what do you think?

Nothing beats actual experience. Exams can unfortunately be cheated. But it's a good start.

I never purchased any books to start with SQL Server. Instead I started with simple and small projects, where I had to write small insert/update/delete queries. After few years I was able to write complex queries.

So, only way to learn something is to do it. Follow the famous saying "I heard, I forgot. I read, I remembered. I did, I understood".

Yes i agree, I am not starting from scratch, I have worked with SQL for 5 years, but it has only been running transact SQL queries and looking through stored procedures for faults in code, but to get a DBA job im going to need to learn a lot more and some certs.

If I can suggest something.

Have a look at the SQL server MS exams to get to MCSA for SQL server. I think it's 70 461,462,463.

Have a look at the skills measured break this down into a matrix. Then start going through each one till you are happy with it. Then take the exams. Then you have created a formal training program for yourself and got certified.

There are plenty of you tube clips on the various subjects and if you get stuck people will give you pointers.
