I just installed SQL Server 2012 SP1 on a Windows Server 2008 on VMWare.
My SQL Server Agent is running, I can create a new job, etc; however, the icon in Managment Studio is showing red. Also, in configuration manager the sql server agent shows stopped. When I try to start it I receive a "Request Failed or the service did not respond in a timely fashion" and it does not start. I am running under the same domain account with sysadmin privledges as the other services and they are running fine. I also enabled the extended stored procedures through sp_configure (Agent_XPs) as they have a running value of one.
This is strange, it is up and running but the service is down.

Does the Windows Event Viewer have any entries after you attempt to start using SQL Server Configuration Manager?
