Please Please help me- upgrading to sql 2008 R2 enterprise edition from sql standard edition on SQL Failover Cluster

  • I'm currently looking into the possibility of configuring a 2008 R2 failover cluster for my organisation. I'm curious as to what I will need to do. Is there some best practices guides or reference material that is a good place to learn about this?

    Here is the current setup which is done by other dba;

    single node with SQL 2008 R2 Standard RTM version (no service pack installed) DBA removed the other node

    Here is what I have to do;

    Upgrade both the nodes to SQL 2008R2 enterprise with SP2 and add the second node for failover cluster.

    What will be the steps I have to take? Does it matter which node needs to be upgraded first at this point? What will be the process to have active / active node? Can some one please send me step by step guide or any site that I can get the idea how to set up the active/active or active / passive cluster. God Bless!

    Thanks for your help.

  • My 3 part guide is a good source, they're linked below
