Unable to connect to database after domain migration

  • Hi

We just migrated our windows 2003 server to a new domain. We created a new service account and set the sql services to start under the new domain account (through configuration). SQL server and all services are running just fine. If I am on the server itself, I can connect using Windows authentication from SSMS, but if I am on my client machine (both my user and machine were already on the new domain), I can only connect via SSMS using a sql login (sa).

I get an "cannot generte SSPI context" error. Googling that has not given me any useful clues.

    Can anyone please help?

    Many thanks

  • Generally that error means that something is not set up right in your new domain. For instance, the only occasions I can recall seeing it are when the DNS server on the client machine was set incorrectly--Active Directory uses DNS to find the servers on the domain, and if the DNS server it's configured to use returns the wrong values, it will cause errors like this. No idea if that's the specific problem in your case, but it's definitely worth checking.

  • Thank you. Our network guy has been out, but back tomorrow, so I'll ask him to check.

    Appreciated!
