Installing Oracle 11g Client in a sql server 2008R2 active/passive Clustered Environment

  • I'm trying to get a step-by-step approach to installing Oracle 11g Client in a sql server 2008r2 Active/Passive Clustered Environment. I have found some articles stating that you have to intall both the Oracle 11g 32 and 64 bit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

  • You do not need 32-bit client, unless some 32-bit apps are running on your server and trying to connect Oracle databases.

Oracle Client should be installed on all the nodes of your SQL cluster.

  • If you're only running 64-bit SQL Server (or other 64-bit software) on the servers all you need is the 64-bit Oracle Client.

If you're using Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) or other 32-bit software on the server you also need the 32-bit Oracle Client.

  • Thanks
