simple web based reporting

    I’m looking for a simple web based tool that can be used to generate tabular reports. Our application has a SQL Server database for each customer with different views that would be exposed to this tool. Customers would need to be able to:

    choose from predetermined parameters we will build for the different views

    select fields to display

    filter and sort each column (Excel style)

    save these options as custom named reports

    So we’re not looking for a full BI tool with charts and graphs and such. It just needs to be web based running on Windows and Mac so we can integrate it with our existing web app. The tools I’ve seen so far seem to be more expensive full BI suites. We would need something with a flat fee we can use for as many customers as we like.

    Can anyone point me in a direction for something like that?

    If you know of a simple SSAS cube web based client that would be helpful as well. The requirements would be similar except that we would want drag and drop to columns and rows, but again no charts and graphs required.

    Why not use SSRS or Report Builder, both part of the SQL BI stack?

    Hello biforumnewby,

    There are several BI tools available but I suggest you should use Report Builder because of certain reasons:

    1. This is a Microsoft BI tool which can easily integrated with SQL Server, also very small in size so do not required much space on your disc.

    2. It also provides a simple and tabular representation of data

    3. You can easily Filter, Sort, Select...etc from this tool

    4. The report build up by this tool can easily be deployed on the report Server. So you can make it live by configuring the virtual directory setting in Report Server Configuration Manager and your report can be accessible from any where on internet.

    NOTE: Remember If you use this tool while deploying the reprot please check the version of your SQL Server and Report Builder.

    For SQL Server 2008 or below go for Report Builder 2.0

    For SQL Server 2008 R2 or above go for Report Builder 3.0 (Latest Version)

    Thank you for the response but I need a mac compatible, web based tool (as opposed to a click once app like Report Builder) that I can integrate into our existing web based app as opposed to having it launch on its own.

    Any other ideas?

    Ok, since you mentioned SQL Server Database so i think that you might be need to work on windows.

    But as per your question, yes there are web based BI reporting tool which can be worked on MAC OS
