identity and unique identifier

  • In what situation or condition we use identity and unique identifier(new id()).

    can anybody explain with a example...

  • Well if you have no natural primary key for your table then you can generate your own surrogate keys.

    Careful with GUIDs though, they consume 16 bytes each and can be a pain as I've been finding out recently!
