SSIS Connection to Oracle from 64-bit Machine

  • Hello Everyone,

I need to connect to Oracle from my Dev Server(SQl Server 2008) which is a 64 bit machine. What I have gathered info over the internet are below points. Can anyone who has worked on SSIS connectivity to oracle check and validate if below understanding of mine is correct completely or not ?

    1) Oracle CLient has to be 11g and not 10g.10g Client can't handle the x86 path of the SQL Server.

    2) "Oracle Provider for OLEDB" in SSIS be used and "Microsoft Provider for Oracle" shouldn't be used inside SSIS.

    3) Install both 32 and 64 bit version of Oracle Client, 32 bit is required to run the package from BIDS and 64 bit required to run from SQLAgent. After the Installation, server must be rebooted.

    4) Client MUST be FULL client and not INSTANT Client. With Instant Client connection would never work.

Are above statements 100% correct? And thanks a ton in advance for helping me out here.

    Regards,

    Athar Iqbal
