4TB Limit?

  • I have request 10TB of disk space for my SSAS cubes from my Storage and Server Group. I am being told that they can only give me two 4TB chunks and one 2TB chunk from the OS.

The server is Windows 2008 R2 SP1 and Analysis Services is 2008 R2 SP2. The hardware is good current stuff and the SAN is a brand new enterprise class HDS.

The issue that I am trying to avoid is hard mapping each cube partition to a specific area of disk. I would prefer to let SSAS handle everything from the Default Data Directory and let the SAN worry about the rest.

Can I reasonably expect a 10TB drive from Windows or am I destined to enhance the cube partition definitions to reflect available storage architecture?

Thank you in advance for your feedback.
