Any chance of success?

  • I’m currently working on a migration project and need some feedback on whether or not this is the best way in which to do things.

We are currently getting from a 3rd party supplier some application service packs which are being applied to system test and user acceptance test environments before we can even get a copy. Not only that but UAT is happening before system test! Each new release results in changes to the schema. There is a mixture of direct table access and sprocs with comments of “this is a hack” “I think this might work” etc. Both the old and the new have no documentation and have evolved via misapplied “agile” method. The business on a monthly basis changes some of the definitions of what needs to be migrated and as far as I can tell large parts of the old and new applications are not compatible.

Have we got any chance of success?

This sounds like crappy software from a hack vendor. Unfortunately there is no chance that anybody can tell you if you have a chance of success or not. We don't know anything about what is happening other than your few sentences here. Keep in mind that anything and everything is possible....it is just time and money.

Have we got any chance of success?

It pretty much depends on your company criteria of "success" ...

    Hopes die last!

  • UAT before system test?

  • The only real "success" is for the 3rd party hack cashing the checks. Anyone trying to implement or maintain this system is, as "The Big Bang Theory" put it, "attached to another object by an inclined plane wrapped helically around an axis".
