Sample Insurance Data warehouse

  • Hi guys,

I am looking for a sample data warehouse for insurance company in order to have a solid starting point.

Can anyone pinpoint a direction for such resource?

    Thanks,

    Jon

  • Well it would all depend on your data, and how you want to slice and dice it.

I would recommend choosing a warehousing route, like Kimball or Inmon as various people have various ways of defining a warehouse.

Some good reading on Kimball methodology - http://www.kimballgroup.com/data-warehouse-and-business-intelligence-resources/data-warehouse-books/, which is the way that I have always done warehouses.

  • At the moment I am more looking into a 'generic' model to continue building on that basis, possibly with sample data which is ready to do some analysis models...

  • Again it would depend on your data and how you want to analyse that data as to what route you need to take in your warehouse. Only you would be able to decide on that.

There is the AdventureWorks data warehouse which you can download from Codeplex to get an idea of how that is built, but I would really recommend reading up on warehousing methodologies and then applying it to your data.

  • I am specifically looking for insurance dw sample database. Looked at AdventureWorks but business is completely different.

  • Model your business processes, that will light what are your facts and subsequently your dimensions. If you are familiar with your business this shouldn't trouble you too much.

  • The idea behind this is to create a BI demo based on an insurance data warehouse not as an actual aid to a situation 😉

    Cheers

  • Kimball books have a sample Insurance data warehouse. You might need to roll the scripts yourself though. I don't think there is much point relying on a sample data warehouse to show a client / POC though. They're only interested in the front end.
