Editing cells from with Server Management Studio

  • (Sorry, headline is supposed to read "from within")

Moving (asap) from 2000 to 2005.

In 2000, we could easily bring up a table, and display a record on screen. Edit a field, a cell. When moving to another record, the result would save.

Now in 2005, I find when a record is on screen, I cannot edit any content.

    Huh????

How do I do that ... tried right clicking on row, cell, etc.

Tell me I don't have to write an update???

  • I don't think you can. You're going to need to do it using a DML statement in a query editor window.

If you provide the DDL of the table(s), sample data, the criteria of what you are looking up to change and the desired result someone in the forums may be able to assist in generating the T-SQL syntax you need to fulfill your request.

  • It depends on how you pulled the record.

Right-click your table, select the option to edit records (can't recall the exact name of this option) and attempt to edit the record. This works fine for me.

  • I think you can only do up to the first 200 rows with that.
