Big Data Jobs

  • Interesting. Is it possible to link to the report you're referring to in the editorial? I know sometimes those things are behind a paywall so if not I understand. If it is, could you please add it to the article or to this thread?

  • I would also suggest that telecom is a growing market for big data.

  • Thanks Steve!

  • Too bad about that list of cities where those jobs are at though. Yeechhhh! 😀

  • From first hand experience, I can say that databases in the healthcare industry, especially for things like patient records and utilization data, has been very large for quite some time and is steadily growing. The city of Atlanta is home for a lot of healthcare related corporate headquarters and healthcare IT services companies.

  • But unless your job is something like help desk support or hands on hardware, you don't really have to live in the city to work for an IT department based there.

Is that really true? Still seems so many large companies (and their managers), want people on site.

I agree with you there: I work for one of those large companies. Though remote work is a more acceptable "addition" to the environment, in their minds nothing beats face time when it comes to management.

Of course those who live locally and can both telecommute or drive into the office have an advantage. I have a desk at the office, but remote into my desktop a couple of days a week. It would make no real difference if I worked remotely five days a week. The difference is marginal.
