Courses?

  • Has anyone on here (UK/London based) taken a course in SSRS? I'm looking to find one and wanted to get people's opinions on whether they've done one and how good it was etc?

    Opinions much appreciated 🙂

    Thanks.

  • There's a heck of a lot of excellent free videos on the web.

    IE : http://pragmaticworks.com/Resources/webinars/Default.aspx

Disclaimer, you need to create an account and give them your e-mail.

Once you've been through those and then get stuck on a project you can always find a professional in your area for a quick 1 day mentoring / get me help to do X. Those days have always proven to be excellent for me...

  • Hi,

Whilst i didn't actually attend this course (a colleague of mine did) i did go through the course material. I found it very useful because at the time i was just starting out with reporting services. It built up a good working knowledge of reporting services for people that went in knowing nothing or very little. Once i'd finished the course i found i could create all sorts of reports with reasonable ease. The rest just comes with practice. Link to the course:

I notice that they also do a 2008 course now.

    Thanks,

    Simon

  • I've been using SSRS for a few months but I seem to run into problems with a few things and then sometimes am able to solve them via the web, sometimes not. In addition I think a course might point out ways of doing something that I've not even considered because I'm only aware of certain things in SSRS

A bit like in T-SQL there's usually 50 different ways to get to the same outcome with some being far more elegant than others!

Course + half day 1 on 1 will get you a heck of a long way.

  • Have you looked right here on SCC

    http://www.sqlservercentral.com/stairway/72382/

Now the series is not complete, but it will give you a start. Who knows it might be enough but as the old saying for SQL "It depends"

If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

  • I've looked at bits of those articles yes, I'll look at all of them in more detail though.

Somebody suggested a learning tree course and said they were good. It seems that's an intensive approach, I wondered if there were some less intensive ones over a longer period, time to Google me thinks!

  • On and it's probably obvious but why are the last 3 tutorials greyed out?!

The stairway concept is somewhat new around here. The articles have been laid out and "ordered" to be written. Some of the authors have not handed them all in yet, or they just have not been published. Hang around and they'll be available in the near future.

  • Oh right, cool 😀

    thanks for pointing that out
