SSIS - FTP Task - Send Files

  • Can someone build a short tutorial on how to send a file to an FTP site?

Maybe show an export of a text file into SQL Server as the first step in a package, or dynamically picking a file, perhaps a .bak or .trn file?

  • I can do this article if no one else has done it yet...

    Thanks...

  • You are welcome to tackle it. No one has responded or submitted yet.

However please tackle one article at at time. IF you want this one respond here and leave a note on any other articles requested threads that you are doing this one.

  • Steve,

Do you or Red Gate have an FTP test site we could send and retrieve files to and from?

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • We have one. I'll see if I can get a test account posted.

That would be great. Thanks, Steve. The reason I ask, of course, is for two reasons... My current job doesn't work with any FTP sites that allow for such testing and it would be real handy to have a place where folks reading such an article can practice (with limits, of course).

If someone writes an article on using the SSIS FTP Task, I might be able to offer up one of the older "custom" methods that I used that is still in use at some of my previous companies. Heh... of course, it'll be highly controversial. 😛

  • Is this task been taken up by anybody. If not, I can do it.

  • Take it, since you did the other FTP one.

  • Aah...you remember
