  • Hi All,

    Product : Database Services (SQLINSTANCENAME)

    Product Version (Previous): 3080

    Product Version (Final) :

    Status : Failure

    Log File : C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG\Hotfix\SQL9_Hotfix_KB2463332_sqlrun_sql.msp.log

    Error Number : 29512

Error Description : MSP Error: 29512 SQL Server Setup was unable add user DOMAIN\loginame to local group domain\SQLServerAgent.

Can you please suggest what might be the error?

    Thanks.

  • Hey,

Just wondering was there ever a resolution to this issue?

    I am experiencing the same

  • We had the same exact issue with two sql 2005 clusters when trying to install SP4. Both errored because it didn't like the service account. The one was due to the service account user looking like this username@domain.local rather than domain\username. The other was due to the service account getting changed via the services window rather than the sql configuration manager. If a sql service user is changed in services, it might not update the user in all of the appropriate places on the server. Hope this helps.

  • We got sorted on this one - old faithful did the trick - REBOOT

To prove the concept, we rebooted the passive node, ran the service pack from the active node again and it patched the passive node successfuly but then failed on the active. A quick reboot of the active and rerun of the service pack and we were sorted.

    dunno why though
