hexadecimal value 0x07, is an invalid character.

  • Hi All,

I have a link of http://www.idealist.org/feeds/volop_en.xml.bz2, from this link to download a zip file, and read its XML to store into SQL server 2008.

Tried to create a project at sql business intelligence development studio using "XML Source".

After I gave the file path, and selected "use inline schema", wanted to go to "Columns" at "XML Source Editor", immediately have a pop error msg box said that "Error at Data Flow Task [XML Source [1]]: There was an error setting up the mapping. '', hexadecimal value 0x07, is an invalid character. Line 15531, position 220."

Because this is a large xml file and that source xml file will be updated every night, I cannot manually to remove those characters.

    Any idea?

Thank you in advance for your time,

    ellen

  • It's pretty much just what it says...the character represented by hex 0x07 is invalid with respect to XML and one exists in the document at the position noted in the error message. In the attachment you can see in the second position the "07".

You'll either need to cleanse the file first or have the data supplier fix their process to only produce valid XML characters.
