Steve, remember the importance of Me time. Sometimes tech types are a little OCD and focus too hard on the new shiny and doing more tech, all the time.

Tends to vary over time. I like some sci-fi, spy thrillers, legal items, medical items, historical fiction for escape. I went through all the Robert Parker books last year, in addition to other random items. The year before I re-read the Vince Flynn series. I've gone back and re-read some Heinlein over the years, and I've enjoyed the Spinward Fringe series.
Some thoughtful items on life or specific areas in non-fiction. Gladwell is someone I enjoy reading, mostly random authors here.

I agree, and I do try to preach balance. I'm not too upset with my performance last year because I did need the time away from tech. I don't do a lot outside of work, but I also don't want to ignore my career. I think 50 hours a year is reasonable for outside work. Certainly doctors, CPAs, etc. do more. 100 is likely to help, but more than that can be a lot to tackle.

I'm reading isaac Asimov's short stories about robotics, but in the original Russian and using it as practice to translate. It's not bedtime reading, but on a Saturday afternoon in a pub with a nice sandwich it's quite a stress reliever.

my guess you reached top of $ you can make as just SQL specialist (contract or permanent) with ~ 20 years of experience
Did you have chance/result to applying to Data Science with higher revenue ?

Not really a switch, but an area of interest. I was hoping to get better at working with and gathering data. This is a big area of growth in SQL Server, as well as other platforms.
