Dealing with dates and recurring schedules

  • Does anybody have an article and/or a sample schema to deal with setting up recurring schedules and calendars?

  • That's a wide open question - what are you trying to schedule? ARe you trying to create appointments? Jobs?

The question is hard to answer right now. Post some more specifics (what are you trying to accomplish, what kind of app, what kind of data, how do you have the recurrence data defined, etc...) or if not specifics, visions/hopes/goals for this thing, so we can give you a hand.

Your lack of planning does not constitute an emergency on my part...unless you're my manager...or a director and above...or a really loud-spoken end-user..All right - what was my emergency again?

  • Scheduling people. Work schedules mostly.

Joe works on monday, tuesday, wednesday at location X , Thursdays and fridays on location Y. The schedules have a beginning date and an end date but there is a need to say "indefinitely". For example Joe's schedule starts next week and goes on forever. If he dies the schedule will need to be deleted. If the schedule needs to be changed for any reason then a new record will be added with a new start date and the old schedule will be modified to include an end date.

Once the schedule is entered then we will need to cross check to see if joe actually worked on those days so there needs to be some cross checking between the actual work times and locations and scheduled work times and locations.

I am not interested in particulars though. Surely this problem has been solved a thousand times already. I was just hoping that there was an article someplace on dealing with recurring dates. Perhaps a best practice or even a pre-made schema.
